Somerset West. Commercial property in the heart of the Helderberg
Somerset West. A thriving commercial capital
Somerset West is situated in the magnificent Helderberg Basin between the Cape Winelands and False Bay. The town was founded in 1822 on a section of the historic farm, Vergelegen. The town was named Somerset after an English governor of the Cape Colony during the 1800s.
Today Somerset West is the commercial capital of the Helderberg basin, and growing commercial development has transformed Somerset West from a sleepy little retirement town to a bustling, dynamic, cosmopolitan one attractive to all age groups from young families and entrepreneurs to retirees from all over the world.
One of the main reasons for the astounding commercial growth in Somerset West is its ideal location - just 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport, 45 minutes from Cape Town CBD, 15 minutes from Stellenbosch, and on the doorstep of the Cape Winelands as well as Elgin apple country. The growth of commercial shopping malls and new residential clusters and gated villages have increased the number of people who are able to live in the region.
Paardevlei Precinct spans 730 hectares of land, allowing for the development of just under 2 million sqm of land across all sectors - residential, commercial, recreational, retail and agricultural. R35 million has been invested to rejuvenate the vlei which is now fully established as an ecologically sustainable water body.
De Beers Precinct
The De Beers Precinct is booming, and is much sought after as an ideal office location. It has a peaceful and historic country feel, and there is a bird sanctuary, a short hiking trail, and Cheetah Outreach, as well as two coffee shops, and a weekend farmer's market. It is divided into the Historic Precinct, and the Beach Road Precinct. 100 000sqm of commercial development and 590 residential units are envisioned. There are heritage buildings within the precinct that are available to let as office space. The Beach Road Precinct allows for the development of office space, Busamed private hospital and The Sanctuary shopping centre.
The Triangle is a 60Ha development within the Paardevlei precinct, being one of their first developments. It is situated between the N2, The R44 and De Beers Avenue, is zoned for commercial, retail and residential use, and has been highly successful. The Somerset Mall forms part of The Triangle.
