Westville at a glance
Westville is a popular residential suburb, as well as a thriving business node which forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. Situated only 10km inland from the Durban CBD, this suburb is easily accessible via the M3, M10 and M19 which run directly through it and connect it to the N2 highway. There are several public transport options available which simplify the commuting process and King Shaka Airport is located 40km away. Aside from its fantastic location, Westville boasts beautiful scenery, excellent schools and excellent commercial attractions.
A Thriving Hub
Set amongst lush rolling hills, Westville has become known as a more laid-back Durban suburb. This could be due to its early history when it served as farm land in the early 1920’s, making it attractive for those looking for a country lifestyle. Westville is no longer a sleepy farming village but has become popular as a successful business and retail node. Westway Office Park and Derby Downs Office Park have attracted some major companies and professional firms, and companies such as Eskom, Mutual & Federal, Woolworths and Discovery have made this area their location of choice.
Westville does not have any industrial zoning, which is ideal for those looking to separate their offices and retail spaces from the manufacturing processes that are sometimes deemed unattractive. The Pinetown industrial area is a mere 11km away, which is easily accessible.
Attractions and Amenities
Westville is home to some great educational institutions - the Westville campus of the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Westville Boys’ High and Westville Girls’ High School which serve as a strong drawcard for families.
Other amenities include the Pavilion Shopping Centre and Westwood Mall which host a range of excellent retail stores and entertainment venues.
The 70-hectare Palmiet Nature Reserve is a wonderful attraction with a whole host of bird, tree and insect species. There are 15km of guided trails to enjoy, as well as picnic and braai areas to relax at on weekends. No running is allowed in the reserve, but the residents of Westville certainly get their fill of runners when the famous Comrades Marathon makes its way along the route of the M13; the main freeway which runs through the suburb.
